We’ll start in Kentucky were Vanderbilt scared the number 1 team but then fell late in the game. The wildcats have been a force to be reckoned with because of their freshman forward Anthony Davis. Not only does he average 14.3 points but also has an impressive 139 blocks in one season that still has a #7 Florida team ahead.
The most recent example is last night when the number 2 team in the nation traveled to Connecticut. Syracuse has been a fear of most teams because they can go 5 deep into their bench if they have to and can ether blow you out or make that key stop to secure the close win. The Orange’s win handed them the Big East regular-season championship. The leading scorer is Kris Joseph and that is expected because he is their star starter but the second and third players on that list are Dion Waiters and C.J. Fair both coming off the bench. Syracuse has a lot of strength and very little weaknesses and that is good this time of year.
Next we go to Kansas where they hosted No. 3 Missouri. The No. 5 Jayhawks started the game well but as half time grew closer they started to fade. But with about 10 min left in the second they started chipping away at the 19 point lead they Missouri held. Kansas found themselves down 3 with less than a minute on the game clock and that is when Thomas Robinson came up big with a 3-point play with 16 seconds left sending the 100-year-old rivalry into overtime. Kansas came out on top with the upset.
In the ACC, the state of Virginia gave a scare to two top 10 teams. Virginia Tech headed to Cameron Indoor with a mission yesterday and fell short in overtime. After exchanging the lead back and forth all game VT had missed 3 game winning shots so it headed to overtime where they ended up losing by 5. The Cavaliers of Virginia scared UNC. The game seemed to look like it was going to go into overtime but that’s where Tyler Zeller comes in. With the clock under 30 seconds he made a move and went in for the dunk that put them up 3 and that is how it ended.
March is right around the corner and there already games that look like they belong in the tournament. This is the time of year that team on the bubble play to make the big stage and they play for their only chance at a title. So when conference tournaments come around be ready for excitement.
